Division 1 - Glenelg 2 lost to Kensington 3 (11 innings)

In a tense battle the lads fought it out to the end and had opportunities to take a W here but couldn't quite get the needed runs across the line.

Harro was magnificent coming in to relieve earlier than we would've hoped and kept the cards bats in check. For our guys we scored our two runs from RBI singles to Hilly & Mouse.

Disappointing end result, but some definite signs of continued improvement from the young charges.

HITS: Hill (2), Ross, Eldridge (1)

Division 1 - Glenelg 15 def Northern Districts 8

Looking to bounce back after a disappointing result sunday, the boys came and started with a bang scoring some early runs. Flynn was on the mound and looking comfortable through the early going. Always looking for some much needed run support, he got it in the form of homeruns, Pickles belted a 3 run dinger in the 2nd innings, Wurf chipped in a 2 run dinger in the next innings, followed by a 3 run dinger from Mason in the next innings. Not finished Mason decided to go one better and belt a grand salami in the next innings, to rack a & RBI's for the game.

With the game in check, and a heavy workload coming up, Flynn handed over the ball to Joe Gluyas for his Div 1 pitching debut, who finished off the game.

HITS: Hill, Clavell (3), Bentley (2), J Gluyas, Lovelock, Ross, Wurfel (1)

Division 2 - Glenelg 10 def Kensington 0

Needing a win the lads turned in one of their better performances for the year and didn't really give the Cardinals a sniff.

Burnsy turned in what I think was his best performance of the year racking up 5 innings, of no run baseball giving up only the 3 hits whilst striking out 8. Patrick Ween complimented that with 2 flawless innings to get a combined shut out.

With the bat we kept the scoreboard regularly ticking over scoring 10 runs off 12 hits with coach Qualmann leading the way with 4 hit, and young guns Kai Reid and Blake Hall picking up multi hits also.

HITS: Qualmann (4), Reid, Hall (3), Harrison & McAuliffe (1)

Division 3 - Glenelg 2 lost to Kensington 3

With gloomy skies and a trek up the hill we took on the cardinals for a finals shaping contest

Blake had an excellent first up at bat against one of the harder throws in the league but unfortunately we quickly went three up three down.

The cardinals jumped us early putting a run across the plate to go one up.

Bender reached on an error by centerfield but was quickly erased by a double play the inning ending on a strike out.

The cardinals again scored in their at bat and if it was not for our excellent field could have scored more with Conor turning a beautiful tag the runner and throw the guy out double and VDub snagging everything at short we were still in the game.

Unfortunately what has become a bit of a norm at the moment we just costed through the middle innings and despite getting runners on we just let ourselves down with our mental approach.

Bender took the bump and was awesome in going 4 innings and only allowing a moon shot and continued working quickly to get us opportunities to hit again

The pleasing thing is we had a chance to level it in the 8th with bases loaded one out and again in the last where we came alive and had base loaded for Dan the man to drive in two. Unfortunately that is all we could muster as VDub smashed one to the pitcher who still probably can't believe he snagged it for an inning ending double play. The misfits go down 3 to 2

I thought Blake was excellent collecting 2 hits and throwing another runner out at the plate and Dan collected two hits and drove in are only 2 runs. As mentioned the defence was awesome. We just have to tidy the way we go about it and we will see results

Division 4 - Glenelg 13 def Adelaide 1

A unseasonal wintery day greeted us, our scramble to get the tarps on the main field on Thursday night had proven fruitless, as 24 hours of sideways rain had been too much to hold back. Diamond 2 was almost ok, but the consensus was, let’s just play it out the back. So we grabbed our gear and headed out to D3 for Kloeds to play his first game out there since baker boys.

We faced off against the Adelaide City 9, and with a couple of outs from the previous weeks good win, I was able to construct a line-up and we took the field. Hayds took the ball and worked his way around a couple of funny ground balls to hold the visitors at bay. We threatened early, but a couple of line drive outs reduced our digits as we stranded a few and held on to a 2-0 lead after a couple. He had a few tough ones in the field and they plated a run and threatened a little more with 2 on and 2 out – Steak was having none of this with his first start at 3B this year, sucking up a ground ball for a textbook 5 to 3 innings ender.

We had a couple of big hits in the middle innings, including RBI doubles to Sadler and Hayds. The score line sat closer than we hoped going into the 5th at 5-1, the Adelaide hurler bamboozling one hitter every dig. We ended up blowing the score out in what would become our final turn at bat, tacking on another 8 runs before time and game was called with the bases loaded, but this one was done and dusted.

A pretty decent win in the end, and with 3 games left there are still some big challenges ahead of us.

Division 5 - Glenelg 12 def Adelaide 0

A dreary old summer’s day greeted the Snakes Alives as we rolled into the friendly confines of the Gillian Anderson Fields to take on the Fox Mulder-less City Nine. With Diamond One being wetter than an otter’s pocket, it was off to Diamond Two – which was unfortunately sloppier than a soup sandwich, so we settled on Diamond 3 for something completely different.

Umpire Tommy Hooters-Nun called “game on” as the good guys took to the field in light drizzle with Captain Custard Slice on the hill. Nicey Slicey worked around a single to shut the Angles (that one’s for you SANGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!) down in the first.

The good guys grabbed the bats with the Bombay Basher drawing a walk to kick things off. Hits to VW Brewing, The Unstoppable Pecs Machine, Beef Borrito and a Moist Krajina had the Tiges out to a 4-0 lead after one.

The Appletini Slice continued to notch regular outs with some assistance from his field and a bit of assistance from some industrial base running to keep the shutout going through two. The bottom of the second brought more green pencil with a CUPM pop up that landed in as the centre fielder struggled to make ground from the tarmac at Adelaide Airport, before a sac fly from Ghost Faced Killah extended the lead. A delicious oppo drive from Wu-Tang Dan completed a five spot for the Snakes and it was 9-0 after two.

As I checked the pitch count between innings, I uncovered Freddy Carts with a glint in his eye as he and his bevvy of angels were snuggling in the scorers shed while HSR just continued to get things done colouring circles in fine style.

The Jolly Jouster took the pill from K-Slice as the A- Team, including BA Baracus, Steak Sandwich and the Fenomenon were all activated off the bench to keep this one rolling. This damp and frankly annoying for those wearing glasses day ended in a 12-0 win that Wu-Tang correctly pointed out was not in fact a Bakers Dozen.

Tommy HootieAndTheBlowfish called game before priming himself for a third game with the counter and it was a solid “W’ in the books as all played well. The weather stayed just good enough (not too hot, not too cold and definitely playable) for Whip Hubley to thankfully get his game in for the matinee.

And it’s on to the Rams…..
