Back to baseball after the state shutdown and we got our first taste of non West Beach action this week taking on Goodwood on their turf.
Goodwood were short on numbers but battled valiantly. Offensively our line up hit the ball hard consistently and found plenty of grass – through traditional field placings along with those vacant as well. 3 Tigers (Dunn, Smith & Maslin) went 4-4 with Jess Maslin hitting for the cycle. Jenny Dunn (4-4) also with an inside the park home run of her own. Prokopec & Harris collected 3 hits each and Lilburn & Mitton both picked up some extra bases on the night. 1-9 had hard contact regularly which was pleasing to see.
Defensively we spread the load – Prokopec was untroubled in her two scoreless innings, we got an inning of work into Maslin as we prepare our depth for later in the year, giving up a runner that would ultimately score with a HBP, then Smith closed it out with two scoreless innings of her own.
A nice return to action after the break and we now face the very strong Hawks of Southern Districts at home at the GBC next Friday afternoon.
We journeyed to East Torrens last Friday & it was great to resume playing on a hot, clear night.
After getting away to a great start by scoring 5 runs in each of the first 2 innings, we went off the boil but hung on to win 11-10.
Everyone made contributions to the win by either hitting safe or advancing runners. Lee Hayes & Bec Saville led the way with 2 hits each including triples to both while Tracey Tuting, Sim Bradey & Sarz Husi also had safe hits.
Bec was outstanding on the mound recording 6 strike outs with Jacqui Dunn effective in relief. Tracey was very safe at first base & Janine Young did a great job behind the plate.
Barb Eldridge was responsible for a 9 to 3 out & some inventive base running.
This Friday we play Golden Grove at home & will look to keep the wins coming.
