Division 1

Glenelg 3 lost to East Torrens 10

Feeling hot hot hot, we took on east Torrens at the heat induced time of 11.00 on Saturday. We gave the pill to Hayden for the first start after the Christmas break.

The first did not completely go to plan with the first hitter of the game reaching by error and eventually scoring. No worries said Max and sent a ball high over the right field fence to level the scores when we game in to bat in the first, Ben Hilterbrand backing that up with a single and the bays looked ready to pounce, this did not happen and Hayden not having his best stuff battled hard into the third, getting into a little trouble with two out Hayden gave way to Jayden who struck out the next batter to keep us in the game 3-1. Max again showed his skill with a base hit to right stealing second getting to third on a throwing error by the catcher and scoring on Hill’s RBI ground out.

Jayden started the fourth and after a couple of lucky doubles an infield single an error we quickly went 8-3 down. We had our chances with Pickles 2 walks for the day and David one walk and hit by pitch getting on base but we just good not get the hit we needed when it counted. Hill game on and finished the rest of the game for us but we were soundly beaten by an East Torrens team who played the conditions better and showed up to play. All and all not a good day for the bay train one I hope the guys learn from and realize talent only gets you so far doing the work and playing for each other wins more ball games than not. Stay the course gentleman stay the course.

Glenelg 6 def Southern Districts 3

Needing a win after losing the first game back after the break the bay train called upon its captain to lead from the front and take to the mound for the start.

After Max and David (stuck in traffic) strolled across the diamond as the coaches met at home plate the game got underway with Aled reaching on an infield single stealing second getting to third on a pass ball and scoring on Ben Hilterbrand single up the middle. A pickles infield single had the bases loaded for Joe Gluyas to smash a single to right scoring two. bays up 3 nil.

Daisy worked the first to perfection and got us back to swing again we mustered another run through excellent base running by Aled scoring on ball four pass ball to Beau that only just got of the dirt.

Tim was excellent on the mound only giving two solo shots in four to keep the lead as he handed the pill to Hilly and went to second as Aleds base running powers made the hammies a bit too tight to continue. Hill gave up a cheap single to allow one run to cross in his first inning but was strong from the get go

We scored another run late through Base hits to Pickles Day and a walk to David. Taking inspiration from the Giants past players game on the weekend the coaching staff turned their eyes to Mags. Go get em son was the call and he answered with an RBI single to centre. Daisy getting thrown out pushing hard for an extra run saw the inning end and the bays back out in the field. Hill finishing off the game with ease Bays hoping on the train leaving hawk feathers in their dust.

Great two out hitting by the guys was the catalyst for the win and Tim showed exactly what we needed from our captain by not allowing the Hawks to settle. Hilly again looked sharp again both on the hill and in the batter’s box. Keep this momentum into the rams game guys

Division 2 - Glenelg 10 def Henley & Grange 2

After the false start last weekend due to the sun god being angry and sending 40 plus sunbeams down the div 2 competition finally got back underway with our lads taking on the Rams of Henley

After collecting players from up the river and down by the ocean and poaching the colonel from Div 4 it was not the usual Div 2 line-up we normal chuck out there.

This did not bother the young studs as Will lead off with a walk stole second and third and scored on a pass ball. Tom walked Joe got a hit as did Mags and the bays where rolling. The highlight of the inning Darcy Gluyas hitting a 2 RBI double to collect his first hit in Div 2.

The rest of the game was not a pretty sight for the Rams pitchers as they walked batter after batter allowing us to plate runs in nearly every inning. The colonel putting one to the fence on the full being a highlight of the game late. Joe Gluyas getting three hits and will leading off like a lead off should collecting three walks and 3 stolen bags. At least ¾ quarters of the team had two walks for the day showing great patience when they could have easily been shellfish and swung for the fence

Burns took the hill and after a few hard hit balls settled into his work throwing 5 innings only getting into trouble maybe once I considered dangerous but showed excellent composure to get out of bases loaded none out situation without giving up a run, Flynn doing the last with ease bays win 10 -2.

Congratulations to Henry and Darcy who made their div 2 debuts on the weekend although Henry did not get a hit he looked comfortable in the box all day and was unlucky to not get one lining out twice to left. Darcy as well as his double looked at ease at second both showing they will have a bright future at this level. Special thanks for Anders who finally got a shot and showed his worth with said double into the fence.

Next weekend is a big challenge going up against a Sturt outfit that is right with us at the top of the table. Bring it on.

Division 3 - Glenelg 8 def Henley & Grange 1

The first actual game back from the break took place at neither Henley nor Grange, but instead just around the corner from Delfin Island. Playing a quality opposition at their park had us set for a great challenge.

The top of the 1st was uneventful with The Rams starter El Presidente CJ looking sharp early. I flipped the pill to T Stevens after about a 5 week hiatus he was quick to introduce himself to the bump, and face some of the best hitters in our league. With a 2 out knock in the bottom of the 2nd the Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Corey Williams was having none of that, and lead off the 3rd with a solo johnson to make it 1-1, or nil all if you believe some of bench side discussion to follow. Stevens followed this with an angry double to the fence and Shawby stepped up to drive in 2 runs with a 2 out single to see the score 3-1 going into the bottom of the 3rd. Stevo finished his short outing and looked pretty good for a guy with limited work in the past month. Alex Marshy and Andrew Qualmann had good days with the bat reaching base 6 times between them with a few knocks. Craig Handy closed out the final few frames, and capped off his day with a 2 run long ball of his own to bounce us out to a solid W. A massive thanks to Flynn Luders for helping us out on the day, tracking down a decent fly ball to deep left a good contribution in the field.

A great team W for the Bays was sealed with a fly ball to the Big Dawg Deeble in right, like Will Smith in Men in Black – the difference between The Dawg and the rest of us, he makes this look good. We have some good challenges ahead in the coming weeks and we all hope to keep swinging our way into 2018

Division 4 - Glenelg 5 def Henley & Grange 1

The Al Gores were happy to finally get a game in after the festive break and a heat out, though things appeared grim as the heaven’s opened for a pre-game deluge at John Loy Field. Luckily the baseball gods came through, and after four seasons in 40 minutes, young umpire Ronnie K called “plaaaaay baaaaallll”.

The Tiger bats came up empty in the first, sending the home crowd into a raucous rendition of the LA Rams “Ram It” as their heroes came to bat for the first time. Matt “Hollywood” Holmes was having none of that as he whiffed a couple to keep the scores level at 0-0.

The good guys got the party started in the second with a double to Kymbo Slice, relishing the chance to sit on his ass for half the game as he took on DH duties. A single to Killer, followed by Patty-G spotting another and a double to coach Boris had the Tiges on the board with a 3-spot.

Hollywood went about his business shutting down the Rams until the Fenomenon went BIG with a home run to DEEP centre. The Krajinator chipped in with a single but that was all she wrote until the 5th. With the Al Gores leading 4-0, The Slice once again stated his claim as a non-fielding guy when he deposited a Tom Jones sex bomb over the leftfield fence.

At 5-0, Boris put Hollywood on Ice and flipped the pill to the Krajinator to finish this one off. When the big man went double/single/hit batter/hit batter and the score went to 5-1 with loaded bases and none out, the coach can admit to nibbling down a few fingernails….

No worries for big Kraj as he invoked the spirit of Randy Wolf – he who has thrown the slowest pitch in major league History – to KC a dude looking on a 2-2 bender RIGHT DOWN THE GUTS.

The baseball gods loved the pitch so much, a line drive to V-dub doubled off the runner at second and that was that, a 5-1 win that was a lot closer than the John Loy scoreboard would show.

Also, Anders came into the game at second and fielded the ball with his junk. And I don’t mean his Chinese fishing boat. He of course got the out.

Division 5 - Glenelg 3 lost to Golden Grove 11

In our first game after Xmas we came ready to play with Wilson on the hill, GGCD offered up 6 batters for 1 run in the first. Swansson catching a runner stealing 2-5, a fly out to 8 and Wilson grabbing a KC saw GGCD inning end.

Our first batting dig started really promising. Burton lead off with a single to 7, followed by a single to 6 for Munday. Wilson was up next and only could manage hitting to 4 which saw GGCD grab the out, but Burton managed to score. Swansson was up next with a double to 9, scoring the run of Munday. Our innings went sour after that, with the next 2 batters falling in succession. (GGCD 1 – GBC 2)

GGCD’s 2nd dig was much better on our behalf with us grabbing the outs of the first 2 batters, before a single to the number 9 looked like they had found a little something. The 3 out came 3 pitches later with the runner caught stealing 2nd with a 2-4 to the combo of Swansson-Leaker.

Our batting efforts started with a single to the Leaker, before we went 1-2-3 with the next 3 batters to end the dig. (GGCD 1 – GBC 2)

The 3rd was another good inning for us with GGCD failing to add to the board with their outs coming from a F4 and then a K2 – 2-5 double play to end it.

Our 3rd batting effort was just not what we wanted with us going 1-2-3 to go back on the field. (GGCD 1 – GBC 2)

The 4th is where our nightmare become reality with GGCD adding 4 runs to the scoreboard with their bats coming alive.

We served up some fielding training for GGCD with on managing 5 batters in the 4th, with the only highlights being hits to Underwood and Capuano. (GGCD 5 – GBC 2)

The 5th GGCD managed another to add another run to the scoreboard, but was a much better effort from us seeing them all out after 5 batters.

All I can say about our inning was “we tried” after Burton getting on with a walk and a pitcher change, we managed a run off the bat of Wilson but that’s where it ended. (GGCD 6 – GBC 3)

Inning 666 was a horror with GGCD adding 5 more runs to their total. We only managed a few glimmers of hope with a KC to Wilson and a 6-2 from Burton – Swansson, but it was a little too late for us.

With our spirits crushed we only managed to go 1-2-3 before game was called and it was finally over.

Division 5 - Tigers 12 def Adelaide 6

Edited match report from BA!

We were keen after an extended break to get back into the season. We played pretty ordinary baseball in the top of the first giving up 6 runs. We then held them for the rest of the game and scored 12 of our own. Sanga was in top nick on the mound, the King and Bayles hit well. Other highlights were a single by squidlips that got by their centerfield and it went in the book as a dinger side note not a single.

Division 6 - Glenelg 4 lost to Angels 16

Division 6 - Tigers 6 lost to Adelaide 8

Marty started pitching and threw well ,our fielding was good and we contained them with small scoring innings. Once he got through the line-up twice.   I then came in to pitch, unfortunately I didn’t stop the runs so they scored another 4 off me .

Our hitting was pretty good. Lavo and Darc smashed a couple straight at fielder so a bit unlucky there. These shots land in the result could have gone our way ,Alan and Bianca hit well .

We are travelling along ok so looking forward to next week’s game
