Final hit out for the regular season and a chance to tune up before finals. This match quickly turned into a fine pitching duel. After two early singles in the first we looked like threatening the scorers before the young saints pitcher danced out of danger retiring the final two out with runners on 2nd and 3rd. For the next three innings we struggled in the box – scattering just 3 hits. In the fifth with their starters pitch count expiring we managed to break through. Jenny Dunn with a one out single, before with two out and the new reliever in the next four reached putting a four spot on the board.
Two hits in the sixth didn’t result in any runs, but a seventh inning five spot put the game on ice. Our pitching was fantastic the entire game. Bianca Smith with another dominate start going five complete innings – giving up 2 un-earnt runs only as our early game defence was off our usual standards. Scattering just 4 hits over the five innings in a fantastic performance. Prokopec closed out the game with a 2 inning save.
9-2 final score, a great opportunity to test ourselves in a full 7 inning encounter as we now move to untimed finals. Congratulations to debutant Georgia Kaluza – a base hit on debut after a strong season in Division 2, helping provide extra depth and opportunities for the upcoming finals match ups.
Hits – Dunn (Jenny), Smith (3); Handy, Prokopec (2); Harris, Kaluza, Maslin, Mitton (1).
