Back after the Christmas break we were on the road against Woodville. After a training mishap induced injury we promoted Lilburn to the two spot for this match up, and we jumped out with a four spot in the first – four hits sandwiched 2 walks. Multiple RBIs to both Maslin and Harris.
Bianca Smith returned and got the start and went to work getting two quick outs before a 2 out walk managed to score on a single from Alyssa Lasscock one of the very best young hitters in this league. 4-1 after the first.
Two errors set the table for a Prokopec 2 RBI triple in the second, Maslin with her second RBI double straight after made it 7-1.
Smith sliced through the senators in the second – a quick 10 pitch scoreless inning keeping momentum with the Tigers.
After a 1 out FC had the Tigers in trouble in the 3rd inning we responded with 3 straight singles, a walk and another single as the middle of the order stayed hot – Harris cashed in with her 3rd and 4th RBIs of the game.
Smith with another scoreless inning in the third inducing some soft contact. A great and efficient return outing after the short break – 3 innings, 1 hit and a couple of strikeouts.
Maslin took the ball for the fourth inning – building some more experience and options for our pitching staff as we approach finals – filling up the zone and finishing the inning with a strikeout.
We handed the ball to Prokopec to finish out this game working around a one out single to induce a double play ground out to end the inning. In the end a good 11-1 victory to kick off the run home. We are scheduled to return to West Beach next Friday – 6.15pm vs Saints.
The Bays travelled to the Dodgers Friday night for a big night with the bats and a welcome return from the season break. Two runs scored early with a neat double from Meldrum only answered back by Golden Grove to equal with two of their own. Starting pitchers Wright (GBC) and Carpenter (GGCD) made great starts on the mound.
Our women fired up the bats in the second dig, highlights seeing Baker and Meldrum add a couple of dingers to the score book. Pitching and catching continued with steady form to keep the Dodgers behind.
A few fielding errors saw the Dodgers creep into the lead but our Bay ladies continued the fight in the next dig with some great defensive glove work and quality relief from Meldrum on the hill.
Unlucky in the last, as the Dodgers capitalised and took the game for the win. Well played game from both teams that had everyone working hard for our first game back. Congratulations to both Alex and Bek on their home runs- great work ladies.
Tigers are now geared up to take on South’s next Friday night for one of our few remaining home rounds of the season.
We took on the undefeated Port Adelaide at home last Friday.
This was a cracking game as our girls took the game right up to the league leaders & were leading 10-9 going in to the last innings.
However the Coach had a seniors moment & allowed our pitcher to exceed her pitch count which resulted in a 9-0 loss.
The team can be very proud of the way they played & showed that they can match it with any team in our grade.
Jacqui Dunn & Bec Saville worked very hard on the mound while Bec & Sarz Husi had 2 hits with singles to Lee Hayes, Lora Munro & Tracey Tuting.
Every player had good at bats & reached 1st base safely. Special mention to Sally Forrest who played her first game for us. Sally caught the second half of the game & did an exceptional job.
This week we travel to play Henley & Grange who are in 2nd place just half a game ahead of us. Looking forward to the challenge & getting the pitch count right!
