Back at West Beach after back to back games in club land we faced the reigning premiers. The result was a high quality and exhilarating match up dominated by exceptional starting pitching and late game lead changes.
Hayley Bonython got the start for Sturt and in the sign of things to come struck out the side in the top of the first around a 1 out walk. Whilst we didn’t trouble the scorers in the run column in the first three innings we kept battling their starter with deep counts. We threatened heavily in the third with loaded bases but just came up short.
On the flip side your Tigers operated behind Alice Prokopec who started on the bump and was fantastic over four complete innings scattering 3 runs whilst being a little unlucky with some soft contact early just missing gloves. Completing the fourth with low pitch count remaining gave us a big momentum boost heading into the fifth when we put a five spot up to take the lead. Unfortunately we couldn’t hold Sturt out in the bottom of the fifth as they walked us off with two out ending a cracking contest.
A couple of injuries during the match tested our depth but also provided opportunity and experience to provide options when needed as we head into the second half of the season.
Enjoy the break guys and see you for the second half of the season.
It was all defence for our Tiger 2’s Friday night as we faced up against an all too strong offensive lineup in Kensington.
Kensies got momentum early scoring 5 in the first but a strong form Meldrum and both Rebecca’s pulled out a few decent dings on the bat and got us answering back to score 3 of our own.
Maite started in usual form relieved by Meldrum (whose made a solid recent comeback to the hill for us the past couple of weeks). Wright came in to close out the last dig but despite the ladies putting in best efforts Kensies continued to keep our field on their toes.
Further hits from Shipton, returning from a recent break and another for Meldrum had us continue to chase but it was not our night with Kensies running away with some big at bats and making the margin too hard to close.
A break over Xmas will see a Tiger return out for some revenge in the new year but the first half of our season has seen some phenomenal efforts, a lot of quality plays, great improvement on the mound and some decent offensive work which we look forward to continuing in 2021. Keep up the great work ladies and wishing you all and our Tiger fam a very merry Xmas and happy new year.
We were able to avenge our previous defeat at the hands of West Torrens by defeating them 13-9.
It was a difficult game to play as the WT pitchers really struggled to throw strikes resulting in numerous walks to our hitters.
Our pitchers, Bec Saville & Jacqui Dunn both threw well & we were solid defensively & made some important outs at the right time.
Overall it was not a game to crow about but there is continual improvement in our defensive plays.
When we resume we play the undefeated Port Adelaide which will give us a much better understanding of where we sit in the competition.
For the team to go into the Xmas break in 2nd position is a really good effort. We can look forward with optimism to the rest of the season.
