Division 1 - Glenelg 5 def Southern Districts 1

A big round of baseball for both divisions as we had several absences impacting on availability, a real continued show of our developing depth as both divisions were able to weather the absences and secure key wins.

Our Division 1 ladies made the trip South to play the Hawks who were a very good side in their inaugural season last year and continue to make significant strides in short time.  A strong 5-1 win against a very strong opposition is a fantastic result.

Away at Souths is always a challenge, the familiar strong wind blowing in makes hitting challenging and successful baseball there always starts and ends with pitching and defence.  On the night we played almost flawless defence, giving up just the one unearnt run with two outs in the final inning a real pleasing point.

Alice was again very good on the mound, challenging Souths hitters early and often and giving her team plenty to play behind.  Offensively it was pleasing – after the first inning where we learnt the harsh lessons of flyballs to left field go to die at Southern Districts we rebounded and put constant pressure on our opponents.  Their pitching was very good but we were able to capitalize on the odd error to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

A big week ahead – Friday night away at Woodville, another very good quality opponent.  Big week on the track to prepare for the Senators.

Finally – massive congratulations to our newlyweds Bec & Alex.  Oh we’re from Tigerland…
