Division 1 - Glenelg  7 def Goodwood 3

After the heat rescheduling we got our first taste of finals baseball and Monday night baseball in our program’s history.

Facing last years grandfinalists in a very strong Goodwood lineup we gave the match ball to Bianca Smith to get the start. Bianca set the tone, striking out the lead off hitter. A nice caught stealing and a fielders choice ended the inning with no score.

Our ladies show’d their intent early – a nice 3 spot on the back of 4 hits and walk.

We gifted them 2 runs in the second but as has been the case all year our defence minimised the damage to avoid the big inning. 3-2 after one & a half innings.

Papadothomakos led off the second with a walk and ultimately scored on Prokopec’s RBI single. 4-2 Bays.

Bianca cruised through the heart of their order second time round – a nice one two three inning keeping a cracking contest moving at a quick pace.

A quick inning by Goodwood’s starter kept us off the scoreboard in the third.

Goodwood scored an un-earnt run in the fourth but Smith & Prokopec combined to shut down the threat.

We got to the pen in the fourth but didn’t trouble the scorers 4-3 Bays.

Prokopec went 1,2,3 in the fifth against the 3,4 & 5 hitters and kept Goodwood off the scoreboard in a shut down 6th as well.

We put together a strong 5th scoring 3 more, McMahon with a big RBI double in the middle of this rally. With light and time expiring we didn’t hit in the 6th but that was fine as we’d won our way through to the GF this Friday night at West Beach – the GBC club song has rarely been sung with such passion.

Likely start time of 8.30pm but please get out early as our Div 2 ladies also won through to the GF and should start around 6pm. Big night for the GBC – we’d very much love your support.

Go Tigers.

Division 2 - Glenelg 14 def Golden Grove 6

We won 14-6.
What a game! After a tough loss last week the girls all came back together and played like a team that was made for finals.
Alex started us off on the mound with Kassy behind the dish and although pitching strongly we let 3 runs in.
We fought back with the bat again as we have done many times this season and it was magnificent, maxing out with 5 quick runs.
Alex’s second innings was one of her best this season and was backed up by Adele at first who earned another player of the game award, Lucy played 3rd like a boss and Parker at SS was unstoppable.
Again we got 5 runs home to extend the lead, our batting has improved week on week and has been a really exciting area of development. Erica continues her run of hitting rbis, CD can’t not hit the ball and Pyke looked like she was stealing bases for fun.
The team backed each other up in the field and fixed up our errors that lost us the game last week which was really positive. Pyke finished us off on the mound, doing a great job as it got dark.
Everyone out there did their job and it was a solid team victory.
Bring on the Grand Final on Friday
