Division 1 - Glenelg 9 def Gawler 8

In the second last regular season match of the year we faced the defending premiers (Gawler Rangers) for the second time this year. Gawler have a number of strong & experienced hitters and after the top of the first they had pushed 2 runs across.

In a very entertaining and balanced contest we managed to respond to each threat Gawler launched. After a nice start by Bianca Smith and a tune up appearance for Handy to prepare for possible finals action we turned to Prokopec to get us out of a small jam in the third. Alice quickly shut down the threat and kept them scoreless in the last to keep us just a run behind going into the bottom of the last. A big triple to Jenny Dunn and a clutch RBI single to Sarah McMahon were key at bats in the last but we swing the bat nicely all day. Bianca Smith and Erin Harris keeping their strong form with the bat going whilst one of the biggest hits of the day was Dana Aldwin’s cracking stand up triple.

JoJo Papadothomakos was a force behind the dish all night – cutting down a couple of would be basestealers. A real solid win with contributions right up and down the order. Pleasing to come away with the win whilst still having more in us as we approach finals. This week we face Golden Grove in our first match at West Beach all year.

Go Bays.

Division 2 - Glenelg 16 def Gawler 6

The Div 2 girls started strong against Gawler Rangers this week. Tigers began the game batting and with aggressive base running and consistent hitting, we scored 5 runs in the first innings.

Alex Meldrum started on the mound, Meldrum threw consistently and with Kassy Rose solid behind the plate, the Tigers showed steady form from the beginning.

We put our training to good use and played well defensively, with great plays infield and outfield. Fiona Crabb backed up third base solidly and cut off the ball to ensure the running was held at first.

April Grava got a good hit, to help Tigers up the score in the second innings. Adele Munro-Chamber batted well all game and was an encouraging voice in the field. Our at bats were outstanding and several of our players managed double RBI’s including Erica Colmer.

Short stop, Em Parker, was not going to let the ball past her, making a great play to give the Tigers a good out at first. Shona corralled the ball and left only an ice-cream to confirm the out. Accurate pitches and steady catches meant that the opponents had little chance to threaten the Tigers.

Cariad Edwards closed the game, in her pitching debut, adding to the hard work from all players throughout the game.

The Tigers were able to end the game with another solid victory, continuing their undefeated run this season. There is now only one game left between the Div 2 girls, the finals, and Pete’s glorious head of hair which he has promised to shave if we remain unbeaten!
