Division 1 - Glenelg 16 def Golden Grove 2

Our first chance to grace the diamond at West Beach after the opening round was transferred.  Playing against the Dodgers who were the final division one team we were yet to face this season.  Kicking off the top of the first we jumped out with a quick five spot to put the momentum our way.

Giving Smith the game ball, Bianca responded with a shut down first inning – getting us back in the dugout quickly.  A change of pitcher saw a quick adjustment as the Dodgers held us to just the 2 runs in the second and in the bottom of the inning they responded with a 2 spot of their own.

Showing they had B’s back the ladies responded with another five spot – in a dominate inning in which only a single out was recorded.  Bianca took control from there with back to back goose eggs in the 3rd and 4th innings to help us blow the game open as we scored another four in the fourth to make it 16-2.

Another five spot in the fifth gave us a comfortable cushion going into the bottom of the fifth.  Smith going the distance giving up just the three in total as the Dodgers pushed an unearned run across in the bottom of the fifth.

Strong contributions all round, Bianca had a great outing on both sides of the ball, whilst Sarah McMahon picked up a lazy 4 hits on the night whilst playing some fantastic defense behind the dish.  Handy, Maslin & Dunn the other multi hit contributors on the night whilst everyone kept the base paths busy, Adele with her customary HBP to go with 3 walks.

A nice performance with a few bang up bodies it was good to be able to play high quality baseball whilst we didn’t feel our best.  Final round of the first half this Friday as we finally get to play at the same venue as our Division 2 sisters – be it at Port Adelaide against the Magpies.

Go Tigers.
