Division 2  - Glenelg 9 def Henley & Grange 3

Young studs clip the rams book finals spot

Nobody likes going into the last game of the minor round having the added pressure of win make the finals lose go into a raffle to see if you scrap in. That was us and boy did we respond.

Jayden got the start for us and although it may be a short stay was good to allow the unit some innings work. The Henley leadoff had other ideas and smashed a double to left to lead of the game. Having witnessed first had the day before carnage at the bay thoughts turned to what has the GBC done to the baseball god to bring such bad luck onto us. Jayden thankfully took care of the rest of the hitters to have us swinging the bats. Time to break the hoodoo.

We put up a three spot in the first thanks to walks to pickles Mags and Steff hitting a two out double to right then Wurfel hitting a single to left to score Steff.

Despite a leadoff double to Tyson in the second followed by a Rion safe hit to right we could not crack the score board next time round.

Jayden was mowing through the rams with minimal trouble getting us back into swing again

Steff staying hot hit a moon shot that confused the right fielder allowing the big guy to trot into second for another double a pass ball saw him move to third where Wurfel duly drove him in with a sac fly to right. Not done there, walks to tom and Jacob allowed Tyson to hit one of the centerfield fence allowing both runs to score. Bays up 6-0

Jayden gave way to Burns for the fifth inning and despite one good hit was solid in relief over the next 3 innings.

The highlight of the game came in the fifth inning when Tom H step to the plate to lead things off. He proceeded to launch the ball over the left field fence for his first every homerun. A hell of an effort for a kid who has been working hard to get better and showed patients pays off. One coach now owes a nuddie run that may have to be done when it is completely dark and no one is around.

Not to be out done Steff decided enough is enough and he too launched one over the left field fence for his first homerun of the year it was great to see the big guy collecting hits again good signs moving into the finals

We ended up winning comfortably 9-3 to book are selves another shot at the title.

Congratulations must also go to Henry who collected his first division 2 hit on the weekend and Darcy for his game winner in the under 17

To the finals

Division 3 - Glenelg 17 def East Torrens 2 (Semi Final)

Starting the final series at home is always nice and hosting a very good opposition sets a great challenge. Lachy Eldridge took the pill to get proceedings underway and the visitors got on the scoreboard in the top of the first as Gamer found his way into the strike zone. This saw the Bays looking at a 2-0 score line after half an inning played.

To the bottom of the first and The Big Dawg Stephen Deeble shifted focus off his ribs cooking down the RF line just long enough to grind out a good AB, which saw the great man fly out to lead off the home half. In stepped Alex Marsh and drew a walk in the lefty v lefty match up, this was followed up by back to back singles. The second one included a misplayed ground ball to the outfield and the score was locked at 2-2 after 4 hitters. A sac fly from Jamie Kloeden got us out to a 3-2 lead after one.

Gamer found his groove after this and the next few innings came without too many hassles. With the score at 4-2 going into the 4th the tiger hitters rallied via a mixture of a few walks and big hits to Marsh, Handy and Qualmann and we jumped out to a 8-2 lead. The bottom of the 6th saw a huge inning for the bays hitters with 9 guys crossing the plate, 5 base hits in a row a highlight for the day for the team.

We went on to record the final 3 outs and had finished with a pretty solid win. This W puts us through to a home prelim final and a step closer to where we want to be. Good luck to all the GBC teams in the finals this week.

Division 4 - Glenelg 2 lost to Southern Districts 5 (Semi Final)

A dirty day at the home of baseball is all that can be said about the Al Gores performance on Saturday. Hollywood and the Slice did a solid job on the hill but our bats didn’t do enough to get the scoreboard ticking over.

The good news was “Wilbur” Wilson put his hand up to help us out and will be handy addition as we move on to a do or die final against league pacesetters East Torrens at Original Gangster road this week.

We take our licks, dust ourselves off and prepare for a hell of a fight next week.

Division 5 - Glenelg 6 lost to Southern Districts 15 (Semi Final)

Like our Div 4 brothers we suffered a dirty day of baseball at the hands of Southern Districts. Unfortunately we were never in the hunt from the get go, and chased tails all day.

Fortunately we have a chance to redeem ourselves this Saturday with a challenging Preliminary Final against the always tough Rams

Division 6 - Glenelg 14 lost to Flinders 15 (Semi Final)

Under 17 - Glenelg 3 def East Torrens 2 (Semi Final)

Flynn started and nearly completed the game with one out to go ,he pitched very well and stayed well within himself a competent effort ,Rion did the closing

We allowed then a few chancers early with some small nervous errors ,but once we got that out of the way our defence  was perfect  our outfielder s coop ,lavo and especially henry  were  brilliant .this was a major contributor in our win ,Henry took 2 catchers running backwards and the ball fading on him ,this is not easy to do but he made it look easy.

Base running again very good all did well ,Adam getting through to 3rd late in the game was heads up  running

We executed most things in the box pretty well ,we had the bed laid many times just couldn’t convert into runs ,until Adam slammed  a double into the fence tying  the game. Adam again doing the damage well done, he also caught well and threw a runner out at second. He had a very good game!

Henry  had a good day with the bat and Darcy hit the winner in .

Overall it was a pressure cooker game and I am proud of the way our boys  played and stuck at it , to  all well done! it is not going to get any easier. Must keep working hard

Under 13/1's - Glenelg 7 def Henley & Grange 6 (Semi Final)

The first semi final had us facing Henley & Grange, a team that had beaten us 2 weeks prior by 1 run.

H & G jumped out of the blocks early scoring 2 first inning runs. We answered straight away courtesy of a Kai Reid home run.

From there the game became a tense battle. Fast forward to the top of the 6th inning, we had a 1 run lead needing 3 outs to win the game.

Their lead off hit a rocket to 2nd base which Georgia Davis fielded solidly and threw him out at 1st. Next guy up is their number 4 hitter who pounds one over the fence in left field to tie up the game.

We get the next 2 guys in order and go into the bottom of the 6th needing a run to win.

They get our lead off out, then up steps Luke Beckham to the plate.

Luke deposits the 2nd pitch of the at bat over left fields head to walk us off with the win!

A great pressure filled game by our guys with a deserved win.

Conor Gluyas went 3 1/3 innings for us striking out 7, Kai Reid threw well in relief.

Jet Robinson made the defensive play of the game diving to catch a hot line drive which saved possibly 2 runs from scoring.

This week we play Adelaide in the preliminary final at home!

Go Tigers.

Under 13/2's - Glenelg 4 lost to Goodwood 16 (Semi Final)

Sundays game seen us take on 2 place Goodwood, who we haven't beaten this season. We went out with nothing to lose and with great pitching from Nic and fielding by Angus, Zack and Cyrus we gave ourselves a shot. We haven't been strong at facing really fast pitching but we had great at bats showing the way Callum, kai, Wren and Max. And at halfway we where only 6/3 down. Oliver came into pitch and kept his improvement at the mound going. We gave up 5 runs with 3 batters at full counts, which has been our hole, we just seem to lose concentration but with 1/2 the teams first season at baseball, they show great promise.we kept trying and didn't really play bad, I thought it was our best game with Harrison, Darrin also showing potential we can look to a strong future. Also Lucas who played got a taste of what's needed to play 13 did himself proud. With all that we still went down by 16/4. Good luck to the sides left in the finals... Go Tigers
