On a warm Sunday afternoon we came up against a team well entrenched in the top 4, so was going to be a great challenge for us. Will McAuliffe got us off to a great start with single off the first pitch of the game, but we could manage to get him beyond first base. Josh Beckham took the hill for us and on the back of an infield error to see their lead off touch em all, we were down 1-0 after 1 batter. To his credit Josh was able to get out of this inning without further damage.
Our bats went quiet through the next 4 innings, seeing us only have 2 hits in 5 innings. Going into the top of the 6th inning down 4-0 Will McAuliffe drew a leadoff walk, followed by 1 out hits to the next 4 guys in Archie, Max, Ryan and Josh saw us tie the game at 4-4.
Our defence was up and down a little on the day, Archie play short the highlight, including a game ending double play to keep the Saints from scoring the go ahead run. Max Stagg threw in relief and did a great job for us. Ryan Wurfel again very solid behind the dish.
The game was played in good spirits by both teams, our guys will learn from the day – number one, limit the outs. In the end a couple of pretty routine plays ending up gifting them 2 of their 4 runs, we need to take the outs that present themselves.
With our remaining games against 3 teams in the top 6, we have some exciting challenges ahead.
Flynn Started pitching and went all the way, he pitched well within himself a good effort. It was a very tight game for 3 innings locked at nil all, until Blake came to the plate and got himself on base stole second and continued to third on an error, this passage of play broke the game open and then from then we attacked Port by making them pay for any mistakes.
Fielding not to bad a couple of mistakes.
Hitting, Lot’s of singles with Adam, Coop, Odin and Matt Lavo coming through, our base running outstanding
Looking forward, we have a big game next week, it will be a good test.
