Back at the GBC for potentially the final time in 2021 your Tigers took care of business against Goodwood to the tune of 18-1. Pitching and defence were on point throughout the match with Bianca Smith completing 3 innings for a solitary unearnt run, whilst Jess Maslin & Jenna Handy each delivered a clean inning as we prepare for finals baseball.
Maximum scores each inning bar one where a non call on an infield fly led to some temporary confusion and a double play to end the inning – otherwise the offensive approach (in the box and on the bases) was solid all night. All 10 tigers recorded a hit.
Hits – Prokopec 3(hr); Aldwin, Dunn (Jacqui), Maslin 2; Dunn (Jenny), Handy, Harris, Lilburn, Mitton, Smith 1.
The opportunity to watch the final inning of our Division 3 sisters who walked off with the win in their match up capped off a great night. On the road against the Hawks this Friday.
In a nail biting finish we managed to score 5 runs in the last inning to overcome Golden Grove 18-17.
Overall it was a good performance from the team. With injuries to our main starting pitchers, we asked Kate Kim & Sally Forrest to do the job in their first try at pitching in a game.
They both did very well and were well backed up by some good plays in the field. It was great to have Janine Young back to catch which enabled us to use Sally in other positions.
Our approach in the batters box is getting better each week and there were some outstanding efforts to get us over the line. Tracey Tuting and Sally picked up 2 hits and 3 RBIs each while Lora Munro and Deb Clark also hit safely.
The outstanding batting performance of the night went to Bec Saville who batted 4 times for 4 hits, 7 RBIs and was responsible for a walk off double to end the game.
We play East Torrens at home this week and a win will ensure that we play finals.
