Division 1 - Glenelg 7 def Adelaide 6

Division 1 - Glenelg 3 lost to Adelaide 8

Division 1 - Glenelg 2 Adelaide 1

Our first visit to Adelaide's new digs ended a three game set against the Angels, which started with a double header on Sunday. Game 1 was a tense pitchers battle with the scores tied at 1-1 in regulation 7 innings, meaning tie breaker rules were enforced. Jayden was fantastic on the hill with the start, going 7.2 innings. Adelaide had first crack at the tie breaker rules and put up what looked like a insurmountable 5 spot. The bays didn't say die and with baseball loaded and down to their last out, up stepped young gun Adam Wurfel to deposit a grand slam home run over the left field fence and tie the game up again. Second innings under tie breaker rules, we shut them down and when our youngest player Archie Lovelock scooted across home plate on a ball that got away from the Angels catcher, what 10 minutes earlier seemed improbable, we came away with a much needed W.

Game two we came out firing and score 2 early runs but after that it was pretty much one way traffic and we couldn't match the up and about Angels, who ran away with the game 8-3.

Onto game 3 Tuesday night and a big game ensued. With a few injuries and unavailability's we fielded what would have to be one of our youngest teams in a long time. The oldest player being a young 24 years old. Joe Gluyas in his 100th Division got us of to a perfect start with a lead of single and hits to Archie, Connor Hill & Mason Clavell, saw us plate 2 runs in the first innings. After such a positive start we left some runners in scoring position and failed to trouble the scorers again, as the game became a battle of two young pitchers from both teams. Our hurler Flynn Luders, was outstanding going the complete game and well within his pitch limit picked up what would arguably be his best W in Division 1 company. A series win a good momentum builder into a big clash against Kensington on Sunday.

Division 2 - Glenelg 4 lost to Adelaide 6

This will probably go down as the game that got away from us. After the Angels jumped out of the blocks putting up a 2 spot in the first innings, Burnsy settled in and was dominant on the mound, pounding the zone and keeping the Angels to to scattered hits. We tied it up 2-2 in the on the back of hits to our youngsters Archie Lovelock & Kai Reid. Adelaide added on another couple to take a 4-2 lead into the 6th. Again Arch showed discipline with a lead off walk, singles to Tom Huttunen & Quals tied it up with limited time.

Patrick Ween had been in good control after taking over from Burnsy and we looked in for a good battle. Unfortunately, where Adelaide took there chances we didn't and a couple of errors in an untidy last innings saw the Angels pick up a couple of match winning runs that we couldn't arrest back.

Division 3 - Glenelg 5 lost to Adelaide 7

An early start for the misfits at home taking on the might of the angles of Adelaide. A very important clash as the winner would put breathing space from the rest of the pack.

We took the field for the start of the first and after a perfect bunt a blooper and a double the angles had struck. The inning ending 2 runs down

We went three up three down in the first with some hard hit balls snagged by fielders

We breezed through the second inning with minimal drama and when it was time to bat we got timely walks from abroe and Patrick. after a double steal we had runners on second and third none out but unfortunately we just couldn’t crack the angels infield.

The game had become finals like with both pitchers working scoreless innings over the next two frames. Abroe came on to the mound and worked an easy 5th inning as did the angels hurler we got the score back 2 to 1 in the 6th inning with Henry walking stealing two bags and coming home on an error.

The game got away from us in the top of the seventh with the cards we were dealt resulting in some hard hit balls that allowed 5 angels to scamper home. Abroe dually kept throwing and we came out of the inning 7 to 1 down.

With a war cry in their ears about how no team no hits us the guys took it literally and stood in the box to cop three in the back and rips to have bases loaded. A double latter and hit to Kai had the score line 5 to 7 after Henry lined out to centre Abroe walked and Patrick reached on an error Witty put a charge in one and there was hope of runs being scored. Unfortunately the angles outfield tracked it perfectly and for the second time in the game after hitting one hard Witty was left staring into the field wondering what could have been.

It was an excellent hit out that was played at a finals like intensity did we handle it I would say yes but we need to tidy up our decision making at times and come with the enthusiasm we did in the last inning for the entire game. We have to keep winning and have results fall our way a little to make it but let’s give it our best shot.

Division 4 - Glenelg 14 def Goodwood 0

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon as we headed out to Mortlock Park to play not the Washington Football Team, but the Goodwood Baseball Team.

The umpire called play ball, and GrAbroe reached base for the good guys to start of the top of the 1st. A couple of hits and a few red pen plays saw us post a 4 spot to kick off proceedings. I tossed the ball to Gamer Eldridge, removed myself from behind the plate and took a catch in RF in the first as we retired the home team with a donut.

We continued to put the ball in play and get hits when we needed them - DH for the day T Von Steveningham with a big hit up the middle to score a run and tick us along to a 9-0 scoreline after 4 innings. Paul Saddle Club took the QAB title with a couple of 10+ pitch At Bats. Jeremy Kloeden got a couple of knocks, and drove in a pair. Gamer was pretty good over his 4 innings of work and handed it over to Stevens to record the final 6 outs. In his return game for 2021 Zeddy was slick behind the dish and picked up a few hits with the stick. A 5-4-3 double play was one of the highlights in the field for the visitors.

A very good team wide win against a club we have enjoyed some great battles with over the past few years. With 4 regular season games remaining we keep the throttle on full and push to keep playing some high quality ball.

Division 5 - Glenelg 13 def Port Adelaide 2

The road trip past the Big Shed onto Dane Swan Terrace was on tap for the Snakes Alives as we took on the Magpies at Pouchy Field.

The Bombay Bomber got things started as the Semaphore doctor wailed in from rightfield at about a million knots. Unfazed, the Bomber mashed a double before the Fenomenon knocked him around to third with a single. An error off the bat of The Jina had the good guys on the board before Ghost Faced Killah singled in a second, 2-0 Tiges after a half.

Pine Lime Slice took to the hill after a long absence and worked around a single to get through unscathed, Steak Sandwich snaffling a fly at right to end proceedings in the first.

The second saw the Unstoppable Pecs Machine walk with two out before Krajagoogoo repeated the dosage. The red hot Ghost Faced Killah singled again to make it 3-0 after one and a half. At this stage the wind had reached Cyclone Raymond proportions, with any foul ball flying into Le Fevre High and bouncing off the cement all the way to Bower Road, possibly grabbing a tasty Banh Mi at Roll’N before it could be reached by any spectators, of which there were just a quality few.

We added a few more runs in the third, once again all coming with two outs. Steak Burger reached on an error before the Mumbai Masher was walked. Fendog Millionaire then hit one that the centrefielder had trouble with, possibly because he was caught in the eye of the storm between a cow and a barn, leading to two runs scoring as the Mumbai Masher goose-stepped across the dish. The Jolly Jouster followed up with a mashed hard single to make it 6-0 after three.

To the Magpies credit they had some solid bats in the third, knocking out three consecutive hits to bring the margin back to 6-2 before a CUSM-Brewing Co-Jina double play ended the inning in fine style.

With Delicious Krajina now on the hill, the wind was the winner from then on through six innings until the Porty piffer had reached his pitch limit. The ensuing change in the top of the 7th changed the game, as the lefty replacement could not find his radar, walking a stack of Tigers between a couple of knocks to Wu Tang Dan and the Bombay Basher. The resultant seven spot flattered us in the end as the game blew out to a 13-2 win, ending just before Brenton Ragless beamed into the Porty Club Rank Arena for Seven Nightly News.

And it’s onto the City Nine…….

Division 6 - Glenelg 10 def Southern Districts 7

On a rare Wednesday night game for your division 6 Tigers, we ventured up Lonsdale Highway for a weekday matchup with South 6pm on 27th Jan 2021. a slight southerly breeze welcomed us at Peregrine Park, the temperature was mid 20's, not too early like most games.  It was a nice afternoon to play some baseball.

We most played some baseball, but lacked our normal killer instinct, our ruthless and sometimes cold-hearted attitude. As a team we did not execute to our lofty standards, leaving many runners aboard and not coming up with the correct fielding plays.

Our best batters this night were Alan "Turing" Laukirbe, Wayne Hughes and Tim "The Swan-dog" Swansson all of whom had excellent at bats during the afternoon encounter. Ben Alexander and "Turing" also leant into a couple of inside "fastballs" to get on base the hard way.

After 4 innings, with only one inning remaining, the score was tied at 7.  Mainly due to the Southern Districts ability to put the ball in play, and their pesky kids stealing bases at will. We scored three in the last thanks to a "The Swan-dog" RBI hit up the middle. After some heads-up baserunning by the Glenelg Pitcher getting himself out on bases for the third out (running off the base on a one out pop-up), we went into the field to close out a hard-fought 10-7 victory.

Division 6 - Glenelg 11 def Angels 0

After playing a few days earlier, we were back at it this time at the home of Division 6 baseball the Glenelg Baseball Club diamond #1 (I wish we could play every day).  It was Saturday 30th January at the "reasonable" (reasonable for most) time of 12:30pm, again a slight Southerly breeze and a mild 27 degrees Celsius.

This is again one of those games where I could copy a previous report and nobody would notice, this is mainly due to the fact that not many people read the report. And when they do just skim to see if they got mentioned at all. I will now put some random names who did not get mentioned here Glen Pycock, Sam Dixon, Michael Tofan, Ronald Acuna Jr, Scotty Bradey (who umpired well),  Sofie Formica,  and Bradley Ayles (who scored well, I assume)

After scoring 7 in the first couple of innings the Div 6 tigers cruised to an 11-0 triumph.  The Angles of Adelaide got a few good hits and fielded fairly.

But alas the Tigers just were a bit too strong on the day. Our better hitters included Leon Eldridge, Connor Major,  David "David" Jucha and Emma Young, the first two also sharing pitching duties with Ben Dixon.  Ben Alexander and "David" provided the fans with some long shots (long shots for them) picking up extra bases.
