Inclement weather was scheduled for the evening and whilst the rain held off strong winds in excess of the usual west beach factor made an impact throughout the match. Keeping the majority of our contact to the line drive variety helped contribute to better value from our contact all night as we outhit our opponents 11-4 contributing to our 8-2 victory.
Our pitchers were fantastic all night with all runs scored of the un-earnt variety as the before mentioned strong winds took a little adjusting to. Smith went deep with her start throwing four innings whilst Prokopec closed it out to end the match. Jess Maslin returned to the catcher’s duties for the evening and was fantastic all night, whilst taking a multitude of knocks and soldiering through.
Handy set the table going 3 for 3 on the night allowing the middle of the order plenty of RBI opportunities whilst 8 of 9 all reached by safe hit on the night to keep constant pressure on our opponents.
Saints are new to Division 1 this year and will be a competitive force all year behind the high strike throwing ratio of their pitching staff. This Friday we face Goodwood at 6.15 on West Beach diamond 2.
This Friday will also mark the start of the division 2 and 3 women’s competitions – so GBC fans will be spoilt for choice with Division 2 away at Southern Districts and Division 3 home against East Torrens. We have many new players at the GBC this season so an exciting week ahead as we celebrate debuts in the yellow and black for these players. Go Tigers!
