We faced Goodwood on the back diamond at west beach on Friday night keen to continue our good start to the year. Prokopec pitching to Lilburn who returned after a scheduling clash with graduation events last week. Working quickly on a shut down inning we then took control early with a four spot in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead. Jenny and Jenna continued their fine form setting the table this year for plenty of RBI opportunities for our 3,4,5,6 hitters. Our 1 – 2 hitters went 4-5 with two walks and a HBP whilst reaching safely (and scoring) on all 8 opportunities to keep the pressure on all night.
Prokopec & Maslin combined for 8 RBIs on the night with Smith and Harris clearing the decks of whatever was left as our middle of the order continues to cash in.
12 hits, 7 walks and a HBP on the night kept the scoreboard ticking over as we posted 17 runs across our 4 innings. Defensively we conceded just the 1 unearnt run off the back of dominate pitching. Prokopec went four innings striking out 8 and surrendering just one hit, whilst Smith worked around a lead off error, striking out 2 herself in a scoreless inning of work.
An exciting night as we were able to celebrate collectively with the commencement of the division 2 and 3 seasons – with our div 2 ladies taking a victory and division 3 coming from behind late to secure a tie. A massive welcome to all of our new and returning players for another season of baseball.
Next week we have the late game on diamond 1 at west beach against the mighty Southern Districts ladies – a cracking match up for sure.
What a great start to the year for our team.
We headed down to southern districts and came away with a very good win.
Our pitching from Georgia and wren really kept us in the game and our bats were really impressive. Our new ladies played extremely well and made the game look easy.
There is lots of improvement to come but plenty of good signs for the rest of the season.
Great start ladies. Let’s keep the bay train rolling this week.
After weeks of training our newly formed Div 3 team made their debut against East Torrens at home.
There was an air of excitement and nervousness amongst the team which was understandable as only one of our players had ever played baseball before and was 10 years ago!
Once the nerves settled, the team played really well to come back from a 9-1 deficit to draw the game 10 all!
Jacqui Dunn and Bec Saville shared the pitching duties and threw vey well collecting 9 strike outs between them. They also picked up 3 hits.
Janine Young “volunteered” for catching duties and showed no fear in this difficult role. She also had 2 hits.
Lee Hayes, Tracey-Ann Tuting, Kylie Gatter, Amanda Osborn and Sarah Husi also had safe hits, while the girls who didn’t make it to first all had quality at bats.
In summary I was thrilled with the team’s first outing. They are a team of fantastic women who are enthusiastic, eager to learn and a pleasure to coach. I’m confident that as they learn more about the game they will be very hard to beat in this grade.
Next Friday we are at home to Golden Grove while Div 2, who opened with a good win, are at home against Dodgers.
If you want to spend an enjoyable Friday night at the club, please come down & support these 2 teams. You will be guaranteed plenty of entertainment!
