Division 1 - Glenelg 3 lost to Woodville 4

In a scrappy game we scrambled to a 3-1 lead over the first 2/3's of the game.

Tony battled well on the hill, without having his best stuff, and the early defence stood up on a tough day conditions wise.

It then unraveled on the back of some sloppy defence, including walks and errors, we allowed Woodville back in the game, who got the tails up and took it away from us. A another disappointing 1 run loss, in a game we should've won.

With the bat Tyson Arnold and Ben Keeping were the pick of the hitters both having multi hit games.

Battle continues this week against the eagles at West Beach.

Division 2 - Glenelg 13 def Woodville 2

A gloomy start to summer is what we stared down as we took on the senators of Woodville last Sunday.

With usual lead off Jacob getting the call into the ones we turned to veteran Aled to lead us off.

He dually walked coach Z backing him up with a single a fielder’s choice by Ben Clavell making his return from a hammie injury having runners on the corners one out.

After Rion lined out to third Mags and wurfel both walked scoring our first run. A dropped third strike allowed Jesse to get on board and another run scoring but the big hit went to witty who dropped one into centre scoring two.

Darcy got the start for us on the bump and despite having control issues early found the zone and got us back swinging with minimal damage of one run scoring.

We quickly got it back with Clavell walking Rion dunking one into left and Wurfel finding the gap between first and second with a hit that the right fielder miss played allowing Clavell to score.

Darcy went out and again Woodville managed to score a run through a fielder’s choice out but that is all they would get as Darcy got the third out with bases loaded to stop the threat.

A Woodville pitching change saw the bats cool off in the third with only Aled collecting a hit.

Darcy went out to do the third and after getting the first two outs ran into some trouble getting the last. With his pitch count getting high it was time to bring in Jesse. After two pitches we were back swinging them.

We broke it open in the fourth with an excellent two out walk from Rion and then another great at bat from Wurfel fighting off tough pitches to eventually hit a double off the fence scoring Rion. This opened the flood gates as Jesse smashed one through short to score Wurfel Witty hitting a triple to score him and Kyle getting a double from a ball that landed just behind short scoring witty. After the inning was over the young studs took a 9 to 2 lead.

Jesse was awesome on the hill over the next three innings and we managed to tack on 4 more runs through hits by Rion, Aled and Mags.

When the game was finally called bays win 13 – 2

It was a real team effort we played smart baseball the entire game which allowed us to pile on the runs. Great work Darcy for starting on short notice and battling through almost three innings. That is what we are about doing what is needed to win thanks mate.

Special mention to Adam Wurfel and Alex witty who both had excellent games with the bat driving in 6 of the teams runs between them.

Next week brings another challenge the nemesis that is West Torrens. Who will stand up?

Division 3 - BYE

Division 4 - Glenelg 6 def Goodwood 3

With the early morning showers out the way, we made our way to Mortlock Park for our 5th away game from our first 6 starts. Big D Deeble got us started with a single to kick things off, we got 2 hits in the first, but would strand a couple guys on base.

Lachy took the pill for us and faced a formidable home team line-up. He fought his way through 5 innings, leaving the game with a 4-0 lead. The lowlight of the game was a soft ball hit to 1B where Kloeds lobbed it to Deebs covering the bag, the ball, the sun, the impending runner and the play became all too much and Big D found a way to cop one in the chops and was off with the blood rule for a couple of innings.

With Bender Handy making his midseason debut for us, he proved a difference maker again with a lead-off double and a run, while also recording the final 9 outs on the bump. B Dixon made his first start of the year at SS and made a couple of nice plays along the way. We leaked a couple of runs in the final inning, but did enough to record the final 3 outs as needed.

Kloeden got a couple of big hits, Kymbo Bartlett fresh from getting a W in the 5s, made the trek over to the late game and hit a double to drive one in and was a huge help on the day.

Overall it was a pretty good outing for us, we have a bit of sharpening up to do with the ball in hand, but gives us something to work on improving.

Division 5 - Glenelg 5 def West Torrens 4

Brought to you by Weeties – Breakfast of Champions

After the Indians left the reservation, the SABL brains trust consulted their trusty computer HAL2000 to pump out a new schedule for the 5’s. The criteria input was an even competition for all, with a variety of games to replace the massive amount of byes after Port pulled out for the 3rd year running and Goodwood unfortunately had to follow suit in recent days. When the numbers were crunched, HAL2000 stated “I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that”. “Just get the Snakes Alives to play West Torrens every week”.  And so it passed that we would face the Eagles at home on a breezy but fine Saturday afternoon.

With just nine semi-fit players on the roster, coach Boruto: Naruto Next Generations called on the legend of SANGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! to join Al Gore’s coach Thrillhouse on the bench, just in case.

The Slice took the pill and proceeded to get through the first 1-2-3 with some help in the field from Boruto and the Jouster. The young West Torrens piffer returned the favour and after one it was a 0-0 ballgame. The second inning saw much of the same with Boruto and the Jouster now making all six outs on the back of some quality hurling by K-Slice. The score remained 0-0 after two. Top three saw the Eags jump out with back to back hits (much like the awesome back to back hits CD with Vanilla Ice AND M.C. Hammer – buy it here https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vanilla-Ice-Back-to-Back-Hits-CD-/192476119030) that resulted in the game’s first run. The Slice performed a Neo style move that had us pining for the days when Keanu made kickass flicks to catch a comebacker for out number three. We came up scoreless and trailed 0-1 after three with just a Mister Freeze single and a Fendog walk to our name.

Things got as loose as Kymbo’s old uniform pants in the 4th as some uncharacteristically sloppy play crept into our game. A Spiderman “double” had the Eags up and about before a pill in the dirt on a throw after a groundball let in the second run of the game. After 3 and a half, the good guys found ourselves 0-2 down.

Boruto called on his Ninja training to deliver a pep talk not seen since Boruto persuaded the Uchida to train him for the impending Chunin exam. It had the desired effect with the Unstoppable Pecs Machine leading off with a single before the Krajinator took one off his ample scone. The Slice singled in UPM then Ghost Faced Killer doubled in Kraj. Mister Freeze singled again, forcing a pitching change from the visitors. A Beef Boruto walk and an A- A- Ron single had the good guys now leading 5-2 after four.

The Eags hit back hard in the top of the 5th with two hits to set-up the chance for Spiderman to tie the score. The Tiges brains trust were having none of this, intentionally putting Spidey on as they could tell his spider-senses were tingling. With two outs and the bases full, the baseball gods made young Boruto pay for his strategy by serving up a walk to run the score to 5-3. The second coach strategy was to change pitchers…which also didn’t work…another walk and the score at 5-4. The Ninja Slice, concerned that he would lose the “W” if another run crossed the plate, decided he had had enough and slammed the door like he was recently slammed to the floor at a dodgy Jetty Road establishment, making a sweet play from 3B to end the threat.

Two more innings were completed with no more colouring of circles for scorer Mad Dog, as the Cave Darter ramped things up on the hill to close this one out with a 5-4 win.

The Non-Kenmax Play of the Day goes to the Slice/Googoo combo. Feeling frisky with a young opposition runner on first, Nicey Slicey thought he would make 99 proud by a sneaky pickoff while milling around the hill. The Slice executed the play perfectly, catching the young Eagle as unaware as the teddy bears being chased by the Bananas in Pyjamas. Unfortunately the big K-Unit was miles away, trying deep in the recesses of his mind to decide whether Coopers Pale is better in the new tins or the old school stubby… so the Slice’s perfect piff not only beat the runner, it beat the 1B man also, smashing into the chest of the great man before falling at his feet.

Massive thanks to Justice Millhouse and SANGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! for helping us out.

With a 6-1 record despite some less than impressive recent form, it’s on to the City Nine…….

Division 6 - Glenelg Tigers 12 def Southern Districts 2

Our starter Mitch pitched well again and got through the meat of the SD line up twice which gave them no chance of catching us ,We closed with Marty Leaker because he hasn't done a lot of  work and the game was well and truly under control ,this should keep all arms conditioned and ready to go against Woodville who are also around the mark.

We didn't run the bases very well so something to improve their

Defence with Fenny in the hot corner took me back to the 80's. There wasn't many other plays because our pitchers were outstanding

The team hit the ball very well all line got hits. Hard to remember all, but Kristen Mundy , Marty Beyer and Emma the pick of the bunch I probably forgotten some one there, i will check book next week.

Good to have Lenny back in line up to help numbers so thanks for that

Onwards and upwards from here

Division 6 - Glenelg 8 lost to Sturt 11

30th of November at about 5:05pm at the home of the tigers, Anderson Avenue Glenelg North, I heard a phrase that i thought would never be said. I didn't say it, I don't necessarily believe it , but nevertheless someone uttered the words "We might have missed Tim Swansson today".  It got me thinking, did we miss the Swan-Dog?  He has been in reasonable form of late both catching and apparently he hit a homer that may have broken the sound barrier in the previous weeks. But to go as far as missing him, i may be coming around after a couple of quiet days meditating to this notion................

With Tim Swansson absent due to his book publicity tour "Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Swan-Dog", Glen "Death Proof" Pycock took over the catching duties for the day and did a fine job.  Sam "Twinkletoes" Dixon started pitching and although erratic at some stages mostly got himself out of trouble reaching his pitch limit after six full innings.

We outhit Sturt fairly comfortably on the day, but as batting is not everything, we got outrun in the end due to a big late Sturt inning.  Our best batting exploits included "Twinkletoes" with a couple of solid hits and  Al "Guy Pearce" Laukirbe dropped a couple in safely. Late call-up Timmy "AZN sensation" Smales getting a clutch 2 out 2RBI single and Thomas "Albrighton" Burton clearing the bases with a smashed triple to the gap.

We were up 7-4 going into the last and then I don't remember what happened after that.

Division 7 - Glenelg 9 def East Torrens Redsox 8

Team from the bay Div 7 had another win hurray.

Played near the pat where balls never came back.

Starting a rookie on the mound what a clown to throw 106 until he had to sit down.

The field was tight with a run down play that was out of sight. 🤣

The bats were a cracking with adze triple to match it.

Stephen could wait a double off the plate not a minute to late.

Stix stood stronger playing one like King Kong. Important had wheels stilling bases with sex appeal 😇 🤣

East Torrens stood tough come back with a rush.

The game was tight going into the last inning tigers have to fight.

Bases all full just need to hit for the walk off rule.

Pitcher found the zone the Rookie said here we go.

Hitting that ball to finish it all.

tigers won the game 9-8. 🐯
