As we head into the finals I wanted to update the club on where we are tracking from a senior’s perspective.
With the finals format for this season being a top 6 (for divisions 1-4, and 7) and a top 4 (for divisions 5,6 and women's) we have finals berths all but secured for Division’s 1, 2 with Division 5 (Glenelg) and Division 6 (Tigers) still in the hunt – whilst Division’s 3, 4, 5 (Tigers) and Division 7 all securing finals spots with one round remaining.

Playing Finals |
Our Don Rice League lads (U19s) are in the Southern Finals this Wednesday facing off against West Torrens (at West Torrens) for the right to take on the Northern Division champion next week at West Beach. The lads had this same match up prior to last season’s premiership so confidence is high as the lads try to defend their crown.
Division one had a rough weekend with a double header against Goodwood that has seen the Indians put some space between the teams in the top 6 however the lads are a few games ahead in 6th and have their destiny in their own hands to clinch a playoff spot in the final few weeks.
The Division 2 lads have a hold on third spot with a chance to take 2nd still available over the last two weeks. As per the change last season Division 2 now align their finals with Division one so they have two rounds of the regular season remaining.
Division 3 secured the minor premiership with a win on the weekend against Goodwood – helping ensure a tight battle remains between us, West Torrens and Woodville in respect to the Ohlstrom Shield.
Division 4 have steadied the ship and are peaking in time for finals – after a few weeks absence due to heat and byes. Whilst both our division 5 teams remain in contention with our Glenelg outfit needing a win this weekend to keep their hopes alive. Our Division 6 (Tigers) have a chance to make finals but with only four teams playing finals in their division their destiny relies on a win and some favourable results. Our other Division 6 team has had a very competitive second half of the season and have been unlucky of late.
Our seven’s have secured a spot in their top 6 finals and are looking to lock up a home final with a win this weekend.
Our Women’s program had a very strong season with both teams having some very strong victories throughout the season. Unfortunately with a very competitive top 5 (2-5 separated by less than a game) our Glenelg / CUBS team just missed out on playing finals this season.
I hope everyone has enjoyed the season so far – we are looking strong to secure a few home finals in the coming weeks so we hope to see everyone down the bay supporting our teams as we chase glory.
Thank you to the support of the entire support structure of the club, including my fellow board members and also our wonderful volunteers in the bar, canteen and catering committee – its great seeing so many people enjoying their time around the club both on and off the field.
Don’t forget as we approach the end of the season we have numerous events and other duties coming due – keep an eye on club announcements around trophy nominations, presentation nights, trivia nights to name just a few!
If anyone wants to discuss any matters pertaining to the above teams please don’t hesitate to either see me around the club or drop me a line at craig.handy@hotmail.com – Go Tigers!
