Purple Thunder def Tigers

Friday night we took the main diamond at home for our game against the purple thunder, the tigers took the field to start the game lead by Alex on the mound as good as the pitching was the thunder came out swing and got the early lead. This week found players in some new positions with Emma Young to 1st, Kelly Langley starting at 2nd and Jo-anna Kenney venturing out to centerfield, throughout the game the fielding was immaculate Kelly Langley carved up 2nd base recording 5 outs throughout the game. Michele smith pulled of a blinder of a catch in left field to restrict the thunder from scoring on us, her fielding out there was top notch for the game.

The girls where patient in the batter’s box and waited for the right pitch unfortunate for us in the first few innings our hits where going straight to the thunder. Emma young stepped up big time for us hitting a bomb to just left of centre and was able to pick up a double on the play. We were able to pick up a few runs to end the game on a high but it wasn’t enough for us to wrestle the score back. Big shout out to Sarah Wright relieving Alex and having her first shot at pitching it’s very hard to come in at the end of the game and try to shut down a team that had been hitting the ball all around the park is not an easy job to do.

We will move on to the next game with our heads held high we were able to play a tight defensive game on the thunder and only limit ourselves to 1 error in the game. A lot of positive things come out of tonight’s game with the ladies showing some great form.

Gawler 9 def Glenelg 3

After the week off for the rescheduled battle of the bay the ladies welcomed the Gawler Rangers to town on Friday night on Diamond 2.

It was immediately apparent that we had a different ball game on our hands as the opposition’s pitcher pounded the strike zone and with likely the fastest fastball we have yet seen all year.  All credit to the opposition pitcher who not only pitched well but mid game took a throw back from her catcher after a passed ball off her eye and gamefully battled on.

In a game where we were chasing early it was really pleasing to see the team maintain their positivity and effort – defensively we stayed quite strong, with the quieting of the bats being the big difference between this game and previous rounds.

Prior to this round the league announce another rule change this time reducing the total runs per inning able to be scored from 7 to 5 per inning – as such we went into our last offensive inning unable to mathematically win or tie (down 6) however as mentioned early I was very proud of the ladies for playing the game out strongly and in good spirits.

Special mention to Emily Pyke who pitched gamefully for us early and her reliever Bianca Smith who was brought into a tough situation and was unlucky to not be rewarded on a number of quality pitches.  A great effort from Natalie Ziersch who made her season’s debut at Catcher and some quality at bats, hitting and base running from Jasmine Williamson, Natalie Ziersch, Jessica Kelly and Jenny Dunn.

All attention now on this week’s opponent – Goodwood on Friday night.
