Division 1

Glenelg defeated Golden Grove 5-3

In our first home game after Christmas we took on a much improved Golden Grove outfit.

The boys jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and with Terrell throwing a no hitter through 6 innings the game looked to be well in hand. Some free passes and some dicey fielding allowed GG back into the game before Tim Day closed the door in the 9th inning.

Terrell Joyce was outstanding on the hill throwing 7 innings, for 1 hit and 10 strikeouts.

Offensively Beau Bishop and Craig Handy led the way offensively collecting multiple hits apiece.

Glenelg defeated Northern Districts 3-0

Hayden McGearey took the hill for us and pounded the zone from the first pitch throwing the complete game 7inning shutout.

Defensively we were fantastic in this game, even turning a triple play to put an end to Norths only real threat of the game in the 4th inning.

On the offensive side we collected 8 hits for the game with The Captain, Dale Ziersch leading the way going 2-2.

We look to continue this good form at home again this weekend as we have a huge game against the Goodwood Indians.

Division 2

Glenelg defeated Golden Grove 16 - 4

Our first game of 2017 could have easily gone the wrong way…our first game in four weeks and several starters away with state teams. To the guys’ credit however we did exactly what we planned to do, come out swinging with aggressive at bats and running. Jayden started on the hill for us and was great in the first two digs, striking out 4 and only allowing a couple of runners on. Offensively we were dominant in the early part of the game. We managed to score the first four guys to the plate. In the second we were even better, scoring another nine as we hit through the lineup. After a tiresome innings with the bat we were a little complacent in the field allowing them to claw back a couple. We capped off the final inning with a Ross 3 run homer – his first in seniors (as if he had one in juniors…?).

We finished the game with all but a couple guys boosting their OBP through hits or walks. Great to see considering four guys had their first B grade at bat for the year / lifetime.

Thanks again to the U17 guys for benching, sorry we couldn’t get you all some game time

Division 3

Glenelg defeated Golden Grove 11-5

This dawg bites.

After a heat out the week before it had been a while since we had strapped on the cleats to head out to the ball park. Facing the Trolley Dodgers at home was going to be a good test against a team in finals contention. After some last minute juggling we flipped the ball over to Kym Bartlett on the bump and he was great through 5 innings of work, giving up 1 run on an unlucky call in the field early. Facing a 1-0 deficit the bays got a couple of guys on base and the rest was in the hands of the Big Dawg, Stephen Deeble, finding a new definition of the Deeble zone with a 2 out double off the fence to get the bays the lead. Singles to Alex Marsh and Luke Thompson plated another run and we jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Ben Dixon looked at home back in the field and we sparked up a mini rally behind a 2 run single to Mark Reynolds and some continued patience at the plate from every spot in the line-up. Kymbo was able to close out a CG W for himself after giving up a few late runs, but did an awesome job for us. We have a few big weeks ahead of us so getting a pass mark on this challenge was very pleasing.

Division 4

Glenelg defeated Golden Grove 27-1

Desperate to overcome the disappointment of missing out on our annual Vengabus tour due to a lack of co-operation from a 4.6 billion year-old flaming orb, the Al Gores awaited our opponents with a fire in our collective bellies.

A late change saw Kymbo Slice join the hard working Steak in the Speccy Macgees, leaving Zooter to take over starting duties for the good guys.

The Trolley Dodgers of Golden Grove managed to safely negotiate the Glenelg Tram just as advertised, and with not one but two league umpires ready to start festivities, Zooterman was chomping at the bit to piff the first pill after a month-long hiatus.

With assistance from the Fenomenon, the Krajinator and Boris, Zooter cruised through the first without allowing any Trolley Dodgers to reach base. Our boys then went to work with leadoff guy Ben-In-Tent-E knocking the first hit of the day before a stolen base and a Freezer walk kept things going. Hits from Zooter and Patty-G had a couple of runs on the board as the first dig came to a close.

To be honest the rest of the game would have been as exciting to the spectators as an episode of “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”, as the Al Gores unleashed a month of “no baseball” frustration on their blue and white clad victims.

Cardinal Jaikob and Shogun Clavell joined the hit parade as the boys racked up 23 hits in a lop-sided victory. As the run tally reached 27, Killer, V-Dub and the other blokes with three hits apiece decided we should shut things down as a dedication to the legendary Cooper trophy winner who wears 27.

Despite racking up more hits than the Foo Fighters, it was a solid return for the boys if not a great preparation for the clash against top team Goodwood at the reservation next week.

Division 5

Glenelg lost to Goodwood 6-3

Unfortunately some costly errors in the field costing us a number of runs and we failed to back up the superb effort Matt Holmes put in on the mound, Darren Mead was once again good in relief.

We had our opportunities with several runners left in scoring positions but were unable to convert these onto the score board.

Tim Swansson was solid all day behind the dish and after many weeks of falling short he sent a text book laser beam well over the centre / left fence in the third for his first Division 5 home run.

This loss has seen us remain in 4th spot on the ladder, this week we find ourselves playing the 5th placed Kensington, no doubt we will be able to bounce back to collect a W and keep finals hopes alive.

Division 6 - Glenelg

Glenelg defeated Sturt 10-2

Sanga hit more foul balls than he pitched. Lurker hit another bomb. Chappell hit his first bomb. Bartlett hit a ground rule double. Kaine professed his love and devotion to Kobe. Hague didn't get hit by a pitch. Bradey ate carrots and grapes. Bayles finally has someone else to drink pale with. There was a double play too.

Good Shit.

Fines: Lurker - Backwards K

Division 6 - Tigers

Tigers defeated GGD 5 - 4

The game was a very even contest ,the lead changed hands a few times, and we were lucky enough to steal it in the last innings , a  season defining win ,post season baseball here we come.

We started with Flynn pitching and he did his job , mouse came in and kept them in touch, his curve ball was moving a lot and confused there hitters well done ,I then closed.

Defensive we are still making too many mistakes, all of us need to take responsibility for that, we need to  get some work in.

Hitting, Leon Eldridge was outstanding ,a homer ,triple and think two other hard hit balls , basically winning the game for us he catch well , Julian day also hit ball very well again well done both of you

The rest of us battle so that was good as well. Keep up the good work.

Division 7 - Glenelg

Glenelg defeated Southern Districts 14-4

This week Glenelg’s Div 7 side took on the 4th placed Southern Districts at Christies Beach.

After four tight innings we found ourselves behind, with the score Glenelg 3 and Southern Districts 4.

In the top of the fifth innings our bats were awoken from the Xmas / New Year break as we put together 6 hits and, together with 3 walks, scored the maximum 7 runs.  Three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth saw the score read 10-4 in favour of Glenelg.

More hits in the top of the sixth innings resulted in another 4 runs to Glenelg, and we then kept the home side scoreless in the bottom of the sixth.

As time and game was called the final score was 14-4 in favour of Glenelg.

Dave Mitchell threw the complete game and continued the good form shown pre-Xmas, with Mullighan & Beyer getting two hits each.

Another positive sign was the return of Tom McIntosh for his first game of the year after recovering from post 2015-16 season knee replacement, with Tom knocking in a run with a single at his first at bat.

Thanks also to Matt Laverty for helping out and showing good form as he returns from an early season injury.

Division 7 - Tigers

Glenelg lost to Angels 11-3

Disappointing return to the season. Not enough runs, basic fielding errors, dropped catches, and general rustiness.

Slipped down another spot on the ladder and making it very hard to get two GBC teams in the Div 7 finals.
